bovey tracey areabovey tracey Bovey Tracey derives its name from the river Bovey which flows through its centre. The "Tracey" was added from William de Tracey, Lord of the Manor in the 13th Century. The Parish Church is said to have been re-built by Sir William de Tracey as penance for his part in the murder of Thomas a Becket in 1170. Bovey is a pleasant old-fashioned country town - really not much larger than a village. with a selection of small shops, tearooms and three banks (Lloyds, HSBC and Natwest). There is a large car park with an information centre. becky falls Waterfalls - Nature Trails - Pets Gardens - 50 acres of woodland - restaurant and tearooms etc. Best to go when there has been a lot of rain to see the Waterfall at its best. devon guild of craftsmen Housed in the Riverside Mill just over the bridge into Bovey Tracey, the Devon Guild of Craftsmen is one of the most prestigious craft organisations in the Country. They have exhibitions and displays of ceramics, textiles, woodwork, jewellery, etc. by highly skilled westcountry craftsmen. Tea and Light Lunches are also available. Tel : (01626) 832223 house of marbles parke This is the Headquarters of the Dartmoor National Park Authority. It is located down the road towards Bovey Tracey and has some lovely parkland and riverside walks. The walk up beside the river on the track of where the old Railway line used to go is quite protected in windy or inclement weather. There is also a beautiful Woodland Walk signed from the main house. yarner wood This is ancient woodland cared for by the Nature Conservancy Council. There is car parking available, and signed walks and information boards about the flora and fauna along the way. There is a visitor centre and hides from which you can watch the birds. |
